Being something of an Arthurian obsessive, I'm finding the new BBC series particularly hard going. The only gem to be currently found is Miss McGrath. She is far too beautiful for words... :)

I think it its a cracking series and for the OP well since its all make believe and theres no actual historic proof that any of these people actually exsisted you can give them a little room for storytelling perposes. Its like the people who watch Robin Hood you sometimes need to just sit back and relax and just watch some tv without having to analyse every detail just enjoy it for what it is and not a historic documentary.Hail To The King Baby ~Ash

shareI know. That's what's bad. She tries to sound classical English like the rest of the characters (except when they add BBC modern slang in, really Anthony Head is the only believable character), but her Irish accent can't stop coming through. What you get is a character supposed to be sounding English, but with a very strong Irish accent coming through, and I can't suspend disbelief, it ruins the immersion for me.

But then, in the age of Arthur English was not yet developped. The age of Arthur is around the invasion of the Germanic tribes into England, and at that time, the people (who became later the Englishmen) of course spoke West-Germanic dialects. The other people living in the Island, spoke either Celtic Brythonic languages or Latin. And of those peoples, Arthur's legend probably has the Celtic origin.
So everyone there speaks with a wrong accent (or more precisely: wrong language), but hardly Katie's is the most wrong. After all, Irish English has a Celtic sound on it because they were originally Celtic speakers, who adobted English language.
That being said, I do know your point was that one speaks with different dialect than the others. I haven't noticed it. But then I'm not a native English speaker, and my ear isn't that sensitive.
