Her changing accent

When I discovered actress Karen Gillan, I thought, what the heck? I just saw an old interview of her with Craig Ferguson. Her Scottish accent was plain to hear. Then I just watched an episode of SELFIE (first one ever) and she speaks like she was born and raised in the American Midwest and has cast her lot in Los Angeles as an aspiring actress. How did she pull off such a skilled accent change? It's a rheotorical question because she has and there's not even a trace or hint of Scottish accent. Amazing. I'm impressed.

She probably worked some with a dialogue coach. Plus, US TV shows are all over the place in the UK, so she's probably heard thousands of hours of American accents.

Also, accents really aren't hard to pick up if you've got a good ear and practice them. I worked in radio about a thousand years ago, and I had probably a dozen accents that I could do for at least as long as needed for the bit we were recording.

If you watch Doctor Who, really listen to Jenna Coleman, who is the current companion. She's from Blackpool, and has lost most of her "regional" accent, but little bits of it peak out, especially in word like "brother" and "younger", which come out like "BROO thur" and "YOON gur"
