Claire Holt leaving the Originals

I was saddened when I read that she left the series. She was one of the reasons I was looking forward to it. Does anyone know why? Is she unhappy with her storylines, is she ill? Anything.

She will be missed and I wish her well.

they said she was "no longer needed".... i dont get it

I don't get it either. That makes absolutely no sense if true. Basically, her character was pulled out right in the middle of a story arc. Nothing was resolved except for her saying goodbye to everybody after Klaus nearly kills her.

I had no idea she was leaving the show until I read it in the news today. Her character is always threatening to leave and fighting with Klaus, I figured she might make an appearance on TVP and then some family thing would bring her back to the Originals in a week or 2. Can't believe this is permanent!! :-(

I always wondered if there was ever any tension between her and Phobe Tonkin, as this would be the 3rd show they're on together.

Yeah, it totally sucks that she's gone. She's the number one reason I tuned into the show. Aside from being hot, she was doing great work as an actress. From what I read, she's no longer a series regular but may re-appear in a recurring manner. According to TVLine.com, her run with the Originals went longer than expected. I suspect the show producers talked Claire into sticking around.

She has absolutely nothing in the works so this whole story about it being her choice is just ridiculous.

All interviews beforehand she kept saying how she was looking forward to having more screen time and that being on The Originals was something she really dreamed of etc. She was very close to Joseph Morgan who was the drive behind this whole series. I am hope this has nothing to do with something personal.

Her whole character was "girl's sticking together" her sticking around for Elijah and Hayley and the baby, she wasn't going to allow anyone to hurt her niece and now the witches are running the quarter and she up and leaves after Klaus forgives her? I smell BS.

I think she's going out to LA to try and start a career, but that something happened in between that had her written out. Now Daniel Gilles is still on Saving Hope and his schedule overlaps The Originals and he won't be filming the first 5 or so episodes next seasons, so what is it now The Original? If I knew it was a show about Klaus and Hayley I never would have tuned in, they really pulled one over on us. I'm totally abandoning the show and I hope a lot of others due to after Claire's untimely departure.

Nothing is making sense and I don't believe a word out of Julie Plec's mouth.

I am horrified too. Makes no sense. If Claire Holt left of her own volition to pursue a movie career, or bigger roles, it would seem premature as she is not a household name internationally as a Michelle Dockery of Downton Abbey is. Even the Twilight actors like Nikki Reed have failed to find traction.

She'd also risk a fan backlash long-term for bailing on the show so early.

On the other hand, I find it hard to accept that the writers would feel that there was nothing left to explore narratively for her. They're down a strong female character - bad.

I do think Rebekah's bid for freedom makes sense - she's long railed at Klaus' patriarchal control - but I can't believe she'd not remain in orbit for the child.

The real issue for the show now is that its family "always & forever" theme has been severely compromised and ruptured.

The show will have to find a new theme/direction and that could be jarring.

Will it look at broader power play or focus on romantic liaisons (I'd like this myself as I found the family thing a bit tedious at times)?

Will Klaus explore his parentage (real father) and discover a new family line? That would be my suggestion.

I am confused as to why Rebekah would not stay until the end of S1, too.

If Daniel Gillies leaves, they're in big trouble. I'd almost suggest they start a new show Klaus in that case!

Let's get something out in the open.
It's true she didn't want to leave and wanted more screen time, but the reason she left is not because she "wasn't needed" or "wanted to leave" it's because she was forced to move with her kids and family in real life and was to busy with that and couldn't keep upp with the show, don't know why they were forced to move but that's the real story behind it all.

"Let's get something out in the open" - well anonymous forum commentary isn't exactly that. ;) She has kids? News to me.

It's all speculation until something comes out with proper attributions - e.g. statement, interview.

Apparently the UK's Daily Mail is on the case (as reassuring as that is).

Claire Holt was great in the part - I was amazed to learn she was Australian as her English accent was pretty convincing and Queenslanders often have a stronger drawl.

I find it hard to believe she'd give up such a role myself knowing of the lack of opportunities atm. Who knows. Maybe she's about to announce something major.
