Would he be where he is if great-gramps wasn't a millionaire oil tycoon?

Well, would he? Armie himself has an estimated net worth of $12 mil, from the silver service in his mouth he was born with. Armand Hammer IV is the quintessential product of the long line of ubiquitous "who are you related to" nepotism and cronyism in Trashwood that substitutes connections for talent and working your way up. The latest version of Pia Zadora. And all the money in the world couldn't buy or crony a career for her.

"Armie", aka, Armand Hammer (Arm and Hammer, as in the communist symbol), for whom "Armie" is named.

Over the decades Hammer continued traveling to Russia, hobnobbing with its leaders to the point that both the CIA and the FBI suspected him of being a full-fledged agent. The FBI privately characterized him as "a type who would do business with the devil if there was a profit in it." And James Jesus Angleton, the CIA's chief of counterintelligence, suspected Hammer of being the Capitalist Prince (a turncoat U.S. millionaire, given that sobriquet by the Soviets). Epstein never demonstrates that Hammer practiced espionage, but he leaves little doubt that Hammer, whether for ideological or selfish reasons, commercially aided a regime that had pledged enmity to the U.S.

Okay, wipe off the deer in the headlights visages and get back to the "I'd SO DO him" threads.

His Wikipedia page says his family disowned him when he dropped out of high school to be an actor. I don't think he got much family help. I'm not sure if his family has now taken him back in the fold.

Hi, Yes, I see that in his Wiki page now, that was editted most recently just as of today, July 9, 2013. It says-

Hammer has stated that "for all intents and purposes", his parents disowned him when he dropped out of high school and began acting.[22]

That's about as self-serving a statement as one could make-- to avoid the stigma of the deserved tag that Hammer got the breaks he did because of who he was. The heir of the multi-millionaire oil tycoon whose name he was given.

"for all intents and purposes" didn't seem to include his cut of the family fortune as he's worth an estimated $12 mill-- that didn't come from movies. As you pointed out, his family may have taken him back into the fold. I submit that "Armie" has been back in the fold as of every single "break" he got to put him where he is now.

Though, as I said, the ghost of Pia Zadora will dog him now. The ghost that says if you don't have talent and bomb-- as the "Lone Ranger" apparently is-- all the money won't keep the "breaks" coming.

Time will tell for Armie.

I wouldn't believe what u find in wiki. A lot of that is just "publicity" writings. Ever notice how many articles or pictures come out when a new movie is debuting? I just read a fluff piece for Johnny drop that says that he wants to purchase wounded knee for the Sioux tribe. Publicity.
