All I know is, he reminds me in some ways of a young Christian Bale. Which is an interesting analysis when you consider CB played Batman and that some people have even said that the two of them share similiar facial features. I'm referring to their acting styles, however. I've heard for years that CB is wooden, etc. That he's a bad actor, blah blah. Same things being said about Armie.
The thing is, both of them are very subtle in their styles. Most of their acting is nonverbal. They are actors who don't have (well, USUALLY don't have) big emotional scenes where they chew up scenery. You have to watch their facial expressions, listen to the inflections in their voices, watch their body language.
I've seen almost everything CB has done. After watching him in The New World, for instance, you see him at dying Pocohontas's bedside. And he has no lines at the end...He is just sitting there, and his eyes are red rimmed and watery, and his bottom lip trembles ever so slightly. And I think " how can anyone say the man can't act?"
And this is the impression I get from Armie. Much like Bale, much like Depp, for that matter-the majority of Armie's emoting is going to come from physicality. Which means you have to pay attention to what he's doing, more than what he's saying or how he's saying it. And I certainly don't think that makes him less of an actor. True, he has a way to go to be as accomplished as Bale or Depp...but he will get there if people give him the chance.
I personally think he'd make an excellent villain.
