Why him for Spiderman?

I think if they were to change the race, Michael B Jordan would be a better choice as a Black Spiderman. Why did so many people want him for Spiderman?

It wasn't really that they wanted Donald Glover specifically.

As I remember....

It somehow got brought up (more as a joke than anything) that Donald Glover should be Spider-Man. Many on the internet, and possibly in the media, responded with what could be called a mild outrage at the possibility of having a black Peter Parker and thought the idea was ludicrous and wrong.

Because of this supposed racism/loyalty to the character's traditional appearance, Donald Glover and fans took it somewhat personally and as retaliation, actually launched a campaign to have Donald play Spider-Man. They were basically trying to say "there's plenty of people who would support a black Spider-Man so it's not so ludicrous after all." Because Donald Glover was the person who originally caused the debate, he was the person that people threw their support behind.

That's the basic gist of it from what I recall.

It's funny though because (comics spoiler ahead): When Peter Parker dies, Miles Morales becomes Spider-Man and he is African-American. So Spider-Man (in one continuity) is indeed African-American
