I was pleasantly surprised with Aubrey's performance.

I watched About Alex to see Aubrey Plaza and Jane Levy, and while the movie itself was only mildly enjoyable to me, the performances were all great. Aubrey stuck out to me because she usually does the sarcastic and monotone deadpan character (which I love), but her performance this time was very well-rounded. She laughed, smiled, got angry, got embarrassed, cried, and more. She was great with all kinds of subtle and obvious facial expressions as well as tones of voice. I think this performance was a good move for her, as I was afraid she'd be typecast forever and not adapt to other types of roles as she gets older. That brings me to my next point; she actually plays a woman close to her real age, leaving behind the pouty teenage aura. It may just be me, but I was pretty impressed with Aubrey in this movie.
