He and Daniel Racliffe have very similar careers! lol!

I'm surprised I haven't seen more articles about this. It's amazing how Darren made his successful start as Harry Potter in the theater spoof and now he's taking over Daniel's role in How to Succeed in Business Without Even Trying. Not only that, but they're also working for the Trevor Project. There are a few articles that have him stating how he and Daniel are on a parallel path with their careers, but I thought there'd be more articles about the irony of all that. lol. I think both Daniel and Darren have good attitudes about it, and I really hope they meet sometime in the future.

That is weird & funny. Did Daniel only perform on Braodway or did they tour in different cities/states?

Yes, they are similar. But I consider Criss to be a self made man. Radcliffe just got lucky.

I mean, c'mon. He just got noticed in a theatre by some producers, while Criss actually studied theatre. Radcliffe got a free ride with Harry Potter. Criss spent years to become as good a musician and singer, which got him the role on Glee.

Let's be honest here. They both got lucky.

Some could say that Darren and starkid got lucky because they used the Potter books to parody and got involved in the fan base. Almost like riding the Potter train. Then he got lucky getting a gig on Glee which gave him the exposure he needed. But of course, there was a reason why they gave him that role.

Daniel wasn't just discovered in a theatre. Yes, that's how negotiations for him to audition started. Initially though, Chris Columbus had wanted Dan to come in and audition for the part after seeing him in the movie 'David Copperfield'. In case you're not familiar with it, he starred as young David in the BBC production. Columbus saw his performance in that film and thought he would be perfect for Harry.... but initially Dan's parents didn't want him to audition. It wasn't until they met with David Heymen at the theatre and talked with him that they allowed it. He had to audition for the part of Harry just as Darren had to audition for Blaine. Both people in charge of casting saw something in each of them that they thought would be perfect for their respective roles.

And I wouldn't call Radcliffe's ride exactly free. He has worked his butt off on that franchise as well as on Broadway and the current films he is now working on. He may have had an easier time breaking into the business than some other actors/actresses, (not talking about Criss here.. he's had it easier than others as well) but that doesn't mean he hasn't put the effort into his roles. He would never have been on broadway for over 10 months without missing a single show if he didn't have that type of work ethic. Even his costars on films and broadway have commented on his work ethic.

Ya I wouldn't exactly call it a free ride for Dan either, I am sure it was not easy to lead that kind of Franchise as big as it was. Also not to meantion Dan did a little bit of theater before Potter as well as another movie. Inbetween he did other small projects as well as more stage work and paid his dues. Dan is still working his butt off to improve and has quite a few projects lined up. Needless to say I agree with you on what you said.

So the rumors of him showing up on set drunk aren't true? Very professional.

Any silver spoon child actor who starts out because of their parents gets a free ride in my opinion. Some artists (real ones at least) actually have to work really hard to get to where they are.

Starts out because of their parents? How did he get the part of Harry Potter because of his parents? Especially considering the director of the movie was asking him to come in for an audition based on a previous performance in another role?

And he went drinking on some nights before he came to work. He still showed up and got the job done the next day. It's not like he was drinking on set. Not to mention, he realized the error of his ways and turned things around. That's how he was able to put so much time and energy into his broadway role last year... as well as the films he's making this year.

And when talking about being professional, there are times when Darren has forgot his lyrics or lines in things he has done. That's not very professional either.
