This guy may have single handedly saved his career!
True Detective? One of the most popular and praised shows of this past year? Good job Kitsch.

shareI really hope so. The more I watch him, the less awful he seems to be. Kudos to him.
A bit of the old ultraviolence...
He approached Nic Pizzolatto, probably begged, and got it. Said he didn't have any projects lined up because he really wanted to be a part of this.
You will be naked again, and clean, and bloodless... and mine!
If he can win the part over Garrett Hedlund then he must be absolutely perfect for this. I'm glad that he got this part, because I think he's at his best playing nuanced and dramatic roles. This is also a great opportunity for him to save his reputation as an actor.
It really is a shame that people think he's not a good performer. Just because someone starred in mediocre films, that doesn't mean they can't act.
It's funny you bring up Garrett Hedlund, Tron didn't go so well for him and he pretty much wanted nothing to do with Hollywood after that. He is very picky about the roles he picks now, Taylor should do the same. Hollywood tried very hard to make them both the "it" boys when they first came out and it backfired and they both suffered greatly for it. Both needed jobs, took up the opportunities, and it went south side. That doesn't mean they are not talented, the industry sucks that way. In a way, it's good Taylor took some time off to regroup and get away from the cesspool Hollywood has become.
Both Tron and John Carter/Battleship where mediocre films. Not even seasoned actors could save them. I absolutely agree about actors needing to be choosy about their roles. One bad project can damage a career. Natalie Portman said that it took her many years for people to take her seriously, after Star Wars. She said that she pretty much had to beg to be cast in good films.
Sometimes I wonder why Hollywood can't create decent projects, on a consistent basis. Especially if said projects are suppose to attract large audiences. There's no reason why Tron, John Carter and Battleship couldn't have been written/directed better, but it is what it is.
IMO, Taylor should have established himself more in indies and smaller films before he decided to become a Hollywood lead.
The Normal Heart did that for him in my opinion.
Yes, but it was a small role. I just hope his part in True Detective isn't going to be so small.
