Is he pretty much done?

I thought I'd come to this board in hopes of checking out all the new upcoming films I could expect from Kitsch. However, based on what I found there seems to be a clear lack of interest in him, which got me wondering (as someone not entirely familiar with how the industry works):

Can a few massive missteps end one's career?

I think of Entourage and how it is basically explained that you can be a skilled and attractive talent but a few box office flops and/or taking the wrong one/passing on the right one can kill anyone's career. Is that what has happened with Kitsch?

I have only seen him in Friday Night Lights, Savages, Lone Survivor and True Detective. All of which I think he did a good job in. Maybe I am just lucky to have only seen the good things he has been involved with. (Savages was closer to average than good I guess).

But I do realize John Carter shows up on just about every "major busts" list and is seen nearly as a punchline when discussing box office flops. Probably also shouldn't have raised his hand when they were casting Battleship as well.

Will producers, directors, creators, writers, etc. stay away from someone specifically because their name gets associated with a few projects that lost a lot of money? I know from an investment standpoint, the sea of white male, attractive actors that fit his category is endless so why take the risk. Right?

Yes I do think that 1 bad choice can ruin and even end an actor's career. And in the case of Taylor Kitsch, that seems to be the case. It looked like he was starting to make a come back when we saw him in Lone Survivor and A Normal Heart (none of which he was the lead). Things were still looking promising, since he was cast in True Detective. Then TD season 2 became a joke to these critics and audiences.

Unfortunately, TK's affiliation with TD 2, as well as his joke of a role in it, may have hurt him again.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the studios consider Taylor to be a risk. Because like you said, he should have other projects lined up for him. Yet again, he was accused of giving a wooden performance in a very disappointing TV series. Why would producers, who risk millions of dollars, gamble with an actor who has yet to prove that he's a worthy investment?

I don't think that True Detective season 2 did Taylor Kitsch any favors, either. Even though TD 2 is underrated, it wasn't well respected among the general viewing public.

With that said, I don't think that Taylor is done. He just needs to find a script with a good concept. Nowadays, it's the concept that draws people in and not the stars. Even people who didn't like Taylor saw True Detective, because of the show.

What he needs to do from now on is find scripts that are interesting. It might be awhile before he can have leading man role. And to be perfectly honest, I'll be fine if he never has a leading man role again. I just want to see him. :)

Me too! He was so good as Riggins on FNL. A couple big flop films and they're done with him. I hope he sticks with it, does some smaller roles maybe. TD2 didn't help him at all, who could have predicted such a disaster.

Good luck Taylor Kitsch.
