The board of the social media giant is reported to have met with Mr Musk over the weekend to discuss his $43bn offer.

Twitter had initially rebuffed the billionaire's approach.

But according to reports, Twitter is now in the final stages of negotiations with Mr Musk to buy the business.

Reuters, the news agency, reported that an announcement may come later on Monday after Twitter's board met and recommended a deal to its shareholders.

We'll find out if Musk is truly for freedom of speech or if he has another agenda like so many of the elite.

The board of Twitter has agreed to an $44bn (£34.5bn) takeover offer from the billionaire Elon Musk.

"Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated," Mr Musk said in a statement announcing the deal.

"I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans," he added.

Man could end world hunger, but spends his billions on Twitter. Classy.

reply

He donated the amount that the UN claimed would end world hunger, lol

reply

He donated around 6 billion. No small chunk of change, but where did the money go? Let's not ignore that he owed 11 billion in taxes. 6 billion is a nice tax write off. My point still stands. 6 billion to end hunger, 44 billion for Twitter.

reply

I wish one benevolent rich person could end world hunger, but that is manifestly untrue.

reply

I do agree , but the billionaires of this world could do a lot more, and not just donating to charities. I dont have the answers, but I think the priorities in this world are all messed up.

reply

No need for a rich person to end world hunger. If all and each person in the world, including you and me and everybody else, simply reduce what we consume, we would have surplus food in no time.

But that also won't happen.

reply

Are you suggesting a global "food stamps" program? It would cost trillions per year!

reply

Not what I'm suggesting at all. There are plenty of organizations that have plenty ideas.

reply

Like GMO crops that don't require pesticides and have higher yields? Or the stupid hippies that think organic food can feed them?

reply

I was thinking more of investing in urban gardens, targeting poverty, and no I'm not talking about just people money, but the exploitation of workers globally is an issue. Especially women. Stopping food waste. One area where Elon Musk has already helped is trying to slow climate change.

This isn't an area I'm the most knowledgeable about, I just think that spending the money on Twitter isn't really the best use of money. I think twitter is a cesspool and it should be shut down.

reply

Elon paid $11 billion in federal taxes last year which coincidently is the same amount of money America gave to the UN. Why hasn't the UN ended world hunger yet?

reply

The UN didn't buy Twitter, so they are spared that criticism from me.
