Why 0004?

If we started counting the years from his birth, wouldn't we say he was born in 0000? Or, 0000 and a few hours?

reply

It would technically be 1 AD as AD stands for anno domini which means in the year of our lord. So really is should say 1AD for the time of his birth.

reply

Yes, that's true.

reply

Nope, counting starts at 0.

reply

No there is no zero it goes from 1BC to 1AD, feel free to look it up.

reply

Hmmmmmmm. Well I suppose if you begin counting at the moment that you start a stopped clock running, then after a couple of blinks of your eye you're up to say 5 seconds, and you keep going from there. So strictly speaking, counting does start at zero. Nought, one second, two seconds, etc etc.

reply

Don't kid your self. The was no 0th year. It was always year 1.It sounds silly nodays cause as zero has less nonce then it did back then but the fact is our 1sr year was 1AD during that year and not after.

reply

Except anno domini. 1 a.d. is the first year of our lord. I.e his first year after birth. Like after your 29th birthday you are in your 30th year. B t w I wonder what "year" he was born in. Did they count years then?

reply

All decades, centuries and millennia start with the number 1. The 21st Century began on January 1, 2001... not 2000 as was popularly believed.

You go from 1 BC straight to 1 AD. No zero year.

A lot of scholars believe Jesus was born around 4 BC and in the springtime.

reply

While a lot of scholar might believe he was born earlier none have ever suggested we go back 4 years on the calendar to account for that.

reply

The usage of the current calendar is so entrenched that the suggestion wouldn't go too far. Not that it would be impossible. In the 1750s the calendar was adjusted by eleven days when the Gregorian Calendar was adopted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_(New_Style)_Act_1750

They would actually need to add four years to the calendar (those four BC years) to make the correction. Instead of 2021 it would be 2025 today.

reply

But by that logic, he was four years old when he popped out!

reply

Because it's from the British Secret Agent numbering system

Triple-Oh 4 is a license to heal.

reply

The person who calculated the BC/AD calendar system made an error and that is why we say Jesus was born in 04 BC. We But it could have been 06 BC, if I understand the information correctly; he had to be born before Herod the Great died and that is probably no later than 4BC. No one knows the exact date of Jesus' birth because there isn't a library of birth certificates for that time period and location.

reply

It's pretty simple: Jesus was born a short time before the Massacre of the Innocents. And because even this massacre never happened, Jesus wasn't born at all. QED.
