Am I the only one who still misses late night cable?
I gotta admit, it's a shame to see Skinemax go the way of the Sega Dreamcast and the Ottoman Empire.
Christine Nguyen was my favorite of the late night regulars from the late 2000's and 2010's both in terms of beauty and talent.
She did an interview back in May that explained the demise of late night programming at HBO and Cinemax. Apparently, it had less to do with the internet and more to do with the AT&T/Time Warner merger.
AT&T didn't want that kind of programming on their channels and there was only one guy who was actually running that department left, and he was close to retirement. Once he retired in 2018, it went away for good.
Christine Nguyen and a few of the other late night regulars recently did a direct-to-video movie called "Girls, Guns, and Blood" that is available on Amazon for streaming. I haven't seen it yet since it's paywalled and I don't have Amazon Prime, but I've heard good things about it.
Girls, Guns, and Blood was basically done as a last hurrah send-off to the softcore cable genre, and apparently it has an action-oriented plot as well. Kind of like the Andy Sindaris films from the 90's.
Christine Nguyen has also said she wants to branch out into TV and low-budget comedy films, and given the fact she's never done any hardcore stuff and actually has some talent and charisma, I think she might be the only one of the Skinemax regulars who could make it in show business (albeit in a B-List/C-List capacity)
I wish her the best and I look forward to seeing her in more movies in the future.
Also, whatever happened to Misty Mundae?
