Deadpool worked in spite, rather than because of him
Deadpool was an okay enough film (extremely overrated though, as with most really acclaimed superhero movies these days), but Miller's direction did nothing to improve it.
The film worked because of Ryan Reynolds' performance and the moderately funny script. The way Tim shot and staged the scenes however, was extremely bland and by-the-numbers. By comparison, take a look at Matthew Vaughn's direction of Kick-Ass. That film was far more stylish and inventive in every way. Miller's filmmaking on the other hand, is as by-the-numbers as it gets.
From what I've seen, Terminator: Dark Fate looks about as uninspired and bland as any of the other non-Cameron helmed sequels. What I find shocking, is how poor the VFX looks for a film made by a guy with an extensive background in visual effects. Is there anything this guy's good at?
