Cast in lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar Live

NBC will be broadcasting a live performance of this iconv rock opera on Easter Sunday in April.

A few weeks ago they announced John Legend will be portraying Jesus.

This is my alltime 2nd favorite musical (Fiddler OTR is #1 for me) and I have heard many different performances.

While I know John certainly can sing, I have not heard enough of his stuff to formulate a fair opinion as to whether or not he actually has the chops for THIS role, especially for I Only Want To Say/Gethsemane.

Any of his fans out there that is more than casually familiar with Jesus Christ Superstar feel he DOES have the range for that song? Can you lead me to an example on YouTube or Pandora etc?

I am really looking forward to this live show but do not want to be dissappointed in it (I fear if he does NOT have it that they will change the dynamic of the song to fit Legend, which would upset me.)
