Good actress but....

She was recently given a tribute (in conjunction with "Suffragette") at a local film festival, and to everyone's disappointment in the onstage Q&A she had NOTHING to say. About anything, really. No working anecdotes, no insights into her craft or working with particular fellow actors or directors. (When asked what it was like to work with the Coens, she said "Well, you have to understand that one does the talking and the other doesn't...oh, it's too complicated to explain." And that was one of her LONGER answers.) Of course not every actor is articulate about their craft, let alone downright garrulous, but it's still disappointing when someone who's so good at what they do is so unwilling or unable to discuss it...especially in a softball context like this where they're not being asked anything uncomfortable, too-personal or otherwise challenging. I mean, the whole audience was there because they admired her and wanted to get a little more insight. The entire event was shorter than the festival had planned for, just because she had so little to say for herself, they had to wrap it up early.

Best gratuitous use of "literally" I've seen in a while. I have no problem with an actor not being very outgoing or articulate--but they probably shouldn't accept offers for personal-tribute events. I mean, if you don't want to talk about yourself, don't put yourself in a position where that's the main expectation. She could have said "Sure, I'm obligated to promote 'Suffragette,' and will do so if I have to, but I'm not comfortable being the focus of a personal tribute," and saved everyone a wasted evening.

Well, she's a person, not a jukebox. Perhaps she just wasn't in the mood.

Saw her on Graham Norton and she was very insightful, funny and quite charming overall.
