i think that in the Twilight films they are making Chritian appear to be a bit of a Plain Jane. Is this because they're afraid she'll outshine Kristen Stewart?

I think it's rather nasty of them to make such a natural beauty to wear clothes that my grandmother would wear.

She couldn't outshine anyone. She was a human and the vampires were suppose to be beautiful. I get it. But she could have been in more of the film.
