Not another privileged Toff!

It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Acting really is fast becoming a career path ONLY for those with money and connections - and an Eton education doesnt seem to hurt. David Morrissey was right.
Hope he enjoyed the shooting parties over Christmas - another hooray Henry pursuit.

Hey, I'm sure he's a "jolly nice chap" I'm just sick of the unfair advantages of the incredibly wealthy because these toff clones will get boring

reply

Couldn't agree more.

If you are in control, you're not going fast enough.

reply

Yep...and he does fox hunting (He said on Graham Norton's show he was going on a Boxing Day hunt with dogs and horses).

Disgusting. :(

Is it really true that only British actors with privileges can have good careers? Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston are privileged from what I read, but what about Paddy considine and Gary Oldman? as far as I know Considine and Oldman are 'commoners', they work very hard to be where they are right now

reply

So what if Redmayne and Cumberbatch are privileged. It doesn't take away from their talents and they're both incredibly talented. Besides Redmayne has been acting for about 20 years and didn't get huge recognition or notice until Les Mis last year so obviously his "privilege" doesn't seem to have helped him too much.

Who cares if he's a toff? I'd have an issue if he was a bad actor, but he's very good in my book. Just because you're a toff doesn't mean you're not allowed to have a certain career. You're practicing a reverse discrimination.

My favourite actor at the moment is Damian Lewis and nobody will convince me he has no talent and got in the business because of some privileges. He got his roles because of his TALENT.

"...but he's very good in my book".

Go watch Jupiter Ascending and come back with a straight face. I dare you.

uh - come on, guy! what has one film to do with the others? it happened to many actors/actresses that they played a role for which they didn´t really fit and they aren´t bad or even worse because of that. ER is really great in subtle acting; but such asks for viewers attention, no? 

btw: i watched JA with lowest expectations and biggest misgivings and became surprized. ER ain´t so bad in it as some people say: i think that he real did what he was asked to do, and that strange voice is part of the (his)story: balem´s the one which had been attacked and neck- hurted by caine (and caine lost his wings for that).

He was great in JA. I think he played what the character demanded. His voice... I have seen in in Spanish, so I can´t say if I like his voice in this film or not. I will have to wait until the DVD is released here.
