Did he just come out of nowhere?

Is it just me or did he jump out of nowhere?

Seems to be a very likable chap. Loads of media coverage in the run-up to the globe, now portrayed (and will be for a long time) as sort of British golden poster boy. Before that the public profile was much quieter? (thought he looks familiar - found that he was in the Good Shepard)

It's really interesting watching the media work - got to take hat off for the timing too / good PR job getting everything sharply ready for 2015.

He was in The Pillars of the Earth, and some films. He is not a newcomer, just that this year is his consolation as an actor to considérate. He is very good, talented nd with a great voice.

I saw him in the Pillars of the Earth and knew he will be huge some day!

Pillows was my "introduce" to him, too. after that i looked out to watch every film with him and always found him really good and fascinating.

i have a little doubt about "jupiters ascending", i´m not sure wether figure "balem" fits for him....

but i´m sure he´ll do an excellent job again as einar and i can hardly wait to see that film. (i find it interesting anyway - but ER is a hugh cherry on the cake)

No, I've seen him in many things and have been watching him for years. I just think they were lower key movies/shows until Pillars which really gave him an opportunity to lead.

I remember when he "broke out" in 2006 with "The Good Shepherd". And was critically lambasted for it. Not that it's his fault, the character was poorly written and DeNiro didn't necessarily give him much to go with.

"Savage Grace" and "Les Misérables" redefined his options for the better, I would say.

Same with me, I was so impressed with how he portrayed Jack the stone artist in that tv show, Pillars of the Earth ; afterwards saw some others of his performances which were mostly drama. Then Les Mis came, his Marius singing Empty Chairs at Empty Tables so touchingly - though there were those mean and cruel people saying he sounded like Kermit the frog - convinced me he'll eventually and soon, become well-known, firstly in other parts of the world who like the film Les Mis... and much later in the US of A.

By the way, I'm Asian and saw Les Mis in the cinema four times.

Congratulations Eddie Redmayne.
