The Lost City of Z Buzz

https://youtu.be/rRqwK2Wt_KQ New trailer, Dec. 22, 2016.

Now that the film as a premiere date, the critics are starting to get excited. The Guardian UK includes The Lost City of Z as a possible Oscar contender

Writer/director James Gray is a favorite among critics, but so far his films have failed to convince Academy members of his talent behind the lens.

The Lost City of Z, which recently nabbed the closing night slot at the New York film festival, appears to be his biggest and most mainstream effort to date, by telling a true story about British military man (Charlie Hunnam) who embarks on a decades-long search for a lost city deep in the Amazon during the 1920s. But knowing Gray, his epic is probably anything but conventional.
Nice words from their critic, Nigel Smith.

This is good to read. Thanks, Curzon.

Thanks Curzon. These early anticipatory articles always make me a bit nervous though, lol.

Thank you Curzon. Looking forward to this film.

I absolutely can't stand articles like this...

There is absolutely no "Oscar buzz" because no critics or audiences have seen the film. It's all just so silly.

agreed tracygee. I came in here thinking it was getting some rave reviews/tweets or something lol.

That being said, can't wait for this film. one of my most anticipated for sure

It can't get rave reviews, it doesn't open until Oct. 15th. Y'all aren't new here, this is how the film industry works. Films that are considered awards-worthy are mentioned by entertainment reporters, duh.

We've already seen some "most anticipated" lists from IndieWire and others. Are they accurate predictors of who will be nominated? No, of course not. Does anyone think they are? It's all hype. Up until the night of the awards show, it's all hype. The hype for TLCOZ has begun and it's a good thing to be in the mix.

Here's what the Acadmeter says:

Oscar buzz is–like Tilda Swinton’s life force–an elusive, mysterious, and eternally complex entity. Awards pundits from all over the web usually have one goal in mind when blogging about the upcoming Academy Awards: to influence the race and to get their predictions right.

Because The Academy’s voting patterns are a closely-kept secret, we can only judge their actions going forward based on the codes they’ve left for us in the past. With The Academeter, Joey Nolfi, Editor-in-Chief of Serving Cinema, backtracked through every year of Academy history, sifting through Best Picture winners and nominees to create a formula to gauge a film’s potential traction and Oscar buzz in the upcoming race. Based on a multitude of factors, The Academeter rankings will change as often as the elements of the individual films in the race do.

Well no crap. and there is no need to be a smart ass about it. I just don't see the point of starting this thread when there was already a big LCOZ thread.
