Exquisitely shot (on celluloid) by Darius Khondji in Northern Ireland and the Colombian jungle, the film exceeds its limited means in every respect. Exemplifying its traditional aesthetic virtues is the score by Christopher Spelman, which, in its vigor, beauty and unfailing efforts to amplify the narrative action, evokes past masters from Max Steiner to Miklos Rozsa.

Detailed, but ambiguous review.

It sounds ambitious and epic, and those are very positive reactions. I have no problem with Rob being part of a film described like this:
...“The Lost City of Z” is a finely crafted, elegantly shot, sharply sincere movie... As a filmmaker, James Gray (“The Immigrant”) has become such a critical darling that there’s now almost a cult of support for his work, and “The Lost City of Z” is destined to be hailed as another prestige addition to the Gray canon. -Variety

Fawcett’s right-hand man for his first two expeditions (for the last one, he brings his now-teenage son, played by Tom Holland) is Henry Costin, played by a heavily bearded Robert Pattinson. This is my favorite Pattinson performance because I kept forgetting it was Robert Pattinson. In his first few post-Twilight performances there was a sense that he was trying to prove himself as an actor. And that’s understandable. But here, he’s fades away into his character so well that I kept having to remind myself that it was him. That’s a good thing. (Bearded Robert Pattinson’s appearance has more in common with early ‘70s John Lennon than he does the guy who was in Twilight. This is a good look for him.)

Looking forward to this film.

Rob: 15 times on French news programmes. His face is a Greco-Roman marvel.

This writer didn't like the film but liked the performances.
Robert Pattinson, meanwhile, continues on his quiet quest to prove that he’s an excellent character actor, disappearing behind a beard and into his role with no sign of wanting to steal the spotlight.
