Do NOT make a "new" Twilight Zone!

Just leave the good stuff alone!

Too late...the television series was re booted twice already...once in 1985,then later in 2002... Also the motion picture in 1983...and honestly a good sci fi/paranormal anthology series I think would be refreshing as long as they don't remake every episode and just stick to the classic formula with original tales. I also liked get out...did not find it scary...more creepy and unsettling...but after viewing it I feel Jordan would be ideal for he project.

Peele demonstrated with "Get Out" that like Serling he's quite gifted at combining social commentary with the uncanny. If Serling were still with us I'm almost positive he would have enjoyed "Get Out" a great deal and concluded his magnum opus was in good hands. My only reservation is that they'll forego the black and white format -- which I think is not a deal-breaker as far as mistakes go but still unfortunate. The eerie black and white cinematography has become as synonymous with "TZ" as Serling, Marius Constant's music, and those many crazy stories with gut punch twists like "The Midnight Sun" and "Stopover in a Quiet Town."

Oh I like the B&W idea! Doubt the PTB would embrace it in every episode...but for the premier and finale...or if they would revisit an old episode with a fresh take...they would be fools not to atleast consider it!

reply

They shouldn't remake any ofnthe old episodes... just new stories...

But I bet top dollar that what Peele comes up with won't hold a candle to Black Mirror... Especially after that cop-out ending in Get Out...

A.) The "rebooted" TZ series of the past both sucked.
B.) The movie was so-so.
C.) I'm all for an SF/Horror anthology series. How about making something NEW, though? What's wrong with a NEW television series, one born completely of itself, without any ties to other work (which is only done for marketing reasons anyway)?

reply

I never claimed them to be good...hell I never watched the tv shows...I just feel your outrage could take a break as this is the fourth time in three decades TZ is getting a reboot. Usually I'd agree with the reason being name recognition...but after reading about the approach and peelers thoughts on the project I'm inclined to believe it to be a passion project and not a marketing ploy...no dog in this fight...just not offended by the project or reboots in general.

Id watch it
This guy is pretty good

reply

He certainly has more of an aptitude for comedy than Serling ever did (though Serling's knack with insults is up there with the best of them).

reply

Thx/agreed
Heres hoping...

reply

Cool. Just what we need. An SF/Horror series with lots of comedy...

reply

i know... it's absurd..

reply

I would watch it, give it a try; and if it sucks, then it won't affect the old stuff for me at all. If the new one ends up being good, then that's awesome; but either way to me, the original series stands on its own forever. No one can ever tarnish that legacy.

reply

They brought it back in he 80s and it wasn't so bad. I think a series like this is a little different when it comes to reboots because besides the host, each story is its own thing. SO you are not replacing a bunch of much loved characters like they do with say Dark Shadows and such.

As long as it maintains a solid syfy/horror foundation and if they use a host that isn't someone to dislike right away it will probably be ok.

reply

But what if Peele is the host? Or Tyler Perry? Or both? With Spike Lee as the sidekick?

Too late, first two episodes Apr 1: https://moviechat.org/tt2583620/The-Twilight-Zone

Maybe it'll be an elaborate April Fools joke. Peele would win my complete respect in that case.

sadly nothing is sacred in movies and tv shows anymore. they actually made a new mary poppins movie for crying out loud???!!!
