My theory on this guy.

I am convinced that Tommy Wiseau comes from Eastern European criminal underground, probably prostitution, sex trade, and/or narcotics. He probably talked with his criminal buddies for years about how he wanted to make movies, and he was going to be a big star in Hollywood, and those retards probably agreed. Then, he got his $6 million, and emerged from his criminal underground and tried to be "normal" like us.... this is the result. I am convinced that this is most likely scenario.

It explains why he doesn't talk about his past, and why he hides and lies about where he comes from. He obviously looks eastern european, which is a hot bed for this type of criminal activity since the fall of Soviet Russia.

This next part, is just my instincts... but looking at Tommy's face and eyes... you can tell this guy has been involved with some rough stuff in his life, probably even prison. And with his fabio wannabe persona....

This is what screams out to me when I see this man.

TBH, if Tomasz Q. Wyszkowski had any real skeletons in his closet, I'm pretty sure that someone from the 'old country' would have come forward and told everyone about it by now. He's not exactly inconspicuous.

Saying that, it's quite strange that no-one at all has yet said 'yeah, I knew the guy when he was younger, before he went to the USA and reinvented himself' and dished the dirt on his past.

Now that I think about it, that's why the Chris R. scene is among one of the few things the movie got right. Tommy imparted his underworld expertise onto Chris R.'s actor, to make him really authentically look and act the part.

I'm pretty sure that someone from the 'old country' would have come forward and told everyone about it by now. He's not exactly inconspicuous.

Really almost no one in Europe knows about "The Room". This is a pearl of modern pop culture which yet has to been discovered by Europe. But since it only works in the original english language I highly doubt it will ever achieve such a reputation here as it did in the USA.

However, a big german newspaper has recently posted an article about the awesomeness that is "The Room" on their website - maybe it's only a matter of time until Germany becomes Spoony-Land.

Anyway, how's your sexlife?

Absolute and utter rubbish. There are screenings of The Room throughout Europe, he appeared at a few in the UK. There's even been screening in Dublin. So rubbish!

It's relatively big in the English-speaking world, which includes the countries you mentioned. The language is not unheard of in Poland and France, but the dropoff is extremely drastic. The debate over whether or not the UK and Ireland should be considered part of Europe is irrelevant. Anyone with common sense can understand that the person you replied to meant "Poland and France" when he said "Europe", because those are the two countries Wiseau lived in before moving to the US. It's unlikely many people who knew him back then learned English, or have since been exposed to enough of the culture to have stumbled on the movie.
