True Detective

Tidbits from various interviews over the years regarding her TD role:

1. Prior to TD, she wasn't morally against nudity, but did not believe she would do it herself.

2. She was feeling a bit desperate when she signed on to do TD. She apparently wasn't even getting auditions for roles she wanted. I don't think her career was over by any means. She just hit a dry spot and actors tend to get easily paranoid.

3. She thought the nudity was necessary to the story because she felt the audience needed to see her naked in order to truly understand that Woody's character is an adulterer. That is one serious stretch - especially when you consider the amount of nudity and how it was presented. Even the creator of TD admitted that the nudity was unnecessary. I wouldn't be surprised if she were just taking the piss (she certainly has a sense of humor).

4. She didn't believe it would do anything for her career. Percy Jackson was important, but failed to truly ignite. Surprisingly, TD made her more of a commodity in Hollywood.

5. She didn't see herself as a sex symbol until TD (even though she had already done quite a Few sexy roles).

To sum it up: She was feeling a bit desperate and in my opinion, decided to challenge herself and felt secure in doing it on a major HBO series.
