Vlad has no choice. He's convinced the world conclusively that Russia is a third world totalitarian shit hole that can never be trusted again. Ever. All the work done by reformists in the 80s has been flushed forever.
There is no exit strategy possible for Russia. Even if Russia withdraws, no civilized nation on Earth would ever trust Russia. Vlad can only hope now that Iran or China can fund and provide working weapons for his attack on Ukraine as a first step for rebuilding the Soviet Union. He's all in and he's got a weak hand.
Yes a very weak hand I didn't realize Russia was so poor until he invade Ukraine. I guess my question is what happens after Putin is gone?

Good question. I honestly don't think there's an exit strategy, at least I can't think of one.
The only option is to beat Ukraine and pull it back into what Putin hopes is a new Soviet Union (I mean, that worked out well...).
So far, all Putin has accomplished is to convince his neighbors that a NATO membership is a great idea for mutual protection, convince them to rebuild their infrastructure to eliminate dependence on Russian gas and oil, and show the world that Russia is a paper tiger with nukes.
Can countries do a 180 and be trusted again? The only countries I can think of that did were soundly and unconditionally defeated in WWII (Japan and Germany). I wouldn't trust a post-Putin Russia for anything.
It's a shame, so many people suffer. I see a lot of Russian tourists everyday here in Thailand. They're strong and resilient but don't smile very much unless you get to know them. One Russian guy told me his sisters husband got killed in Ukraine. Old man Putin sending kids off to die.
