shareIt's pretty simple. Directors likely pay attention to actors from stuff like Hallmark and other smaller time projects. Then if someone catches their eye they will make them an offer. It's happened to plenty of actors over the years.

I doubt she got a "really good" (in Hollywood terms) salary out of that project... it's not like the movie was advertised featuring her in a supporting role either... she was in the trailers yeah, but she did not bring anything special to the project, it's not like for example Good Will Hunting featuring Robin Williams or Zendaya as MJ in the new Spider-Man movies. Good for her though, she was in a Will Smith movie.
