The quid pro quo for this is of course that excessive and graphic violence is far more acceptable in American cinema, and is much less common in European film and television (though it has undoubtedly become more acceptable in recent years, especially with the rise in popularity of joint European/American series like Penny Dreadful, Rome, Game of Thrones, etc.)Excellent points!
This is probably why I prefer European movies to American films much of the time – because I like the poetic nature of them, the sensuality of them, and the relative lack of violence.
To me, I'd much rather see a naked body than a bruised and beaten one. I'd much rather see a lovemaking scene than a fight scene. And apparently, European filmmakers are the same way. Therefore, it's a real shame that violence has become more common in European films, thanks to what you said – the joint European-American productions.
Viva la sensuality, lovemaking, and beautiful nudity – done in an artistic, lovely way, and down with excessive gore and violent scenes!
Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!
