He passed away 15 years ago today
I really loved Dan Fogelberg's music. He was such an incredible artist and the "complete package" as a musician (singer, songwriter, composer, played multiple instruments very well). He could write such beautiful ballads ("Longer," "Leader Of The Band," "Same Old Auld Lang Syne," etc.), but could also grab an electric guitar and play so well also ("Missing You," "Phoenix," etc.).
I always thought there was a "class" and "elegance" with his music. It just sounded so clear and well-played. He was one of my big influences when I first started playing guitar...I love to play "Longer" to this day as an instrumental (It's so beautiful...a bit tricky, but not too terribly difficult to play...Fogelberg composed it in "Open G Tuning" for any guitar players who read this! π). He was so talented.
Prostate cancer killed him at age 56 on this day in 2007. Gone way too soon and I still miss him to this day:
