But I think this has nothing to do with his Ranking on IMDb...
It may have. Each day, the IMDb homepage shows the photos of the five top-ranked stars born on that day. Lee was the top-ranked star on his birthday, so his photo was first. Since he is notoriously under-exposed and a lot of people don't recognize him by name or outside of some of his high-profile, highly-made-up characters, a lot of IMDb visitors may have clicked the link just to figure out who that was.

I think it also has something to do with the realease of Hobbit3 Blue-ray. Other actors in the movie also get a promotion in ranking last week

shareIt was his birthday a couple of weeks ago. Therefore his profile appeared on the imdb homepage that day and ranked first because he had the highest imdb star rating of all the others celebrating their birthday that day.
It was the 24hr exposure on his birthday that lifted his ranking. It was bound to drop significantly after that.
