Has anyone seen The Program?
How was it? What about Lee and his Bill Stapleton role?
shareSince you brought that up, I thought ummm, I hadn't heard anything about this movie yet. That's because, while there are release dates for many countries, the US is not one of them. I thought there was something hinky about how long it took to get this movie distributed. Does anyone think there are legal reasons there's no US release date?
shareA sabotage?
shareI don't know about "legal issues" but I am wondering if they are just 'testing the waters' to see how it's received elsewhere before releasing here...? So, WHO is the character Bill Stapleton that Lee is playing??
shareYou don't think it's odd it was released everywhere but the US? Stapleton was Armstrong's agent & still involved in lawsuits as is Armstrong.
shareNo, I think TPTB are fearful of the backlash in the US because the subject is about discovery of his supposed superhuman stamina.... Not a positive view of Armstrong is how I'm interpreting this so I don't think it's really odd that it would be released later here.
I just think they're watching the reviews and deciding when to release based on what they read.
We already know the story - everyone in the US hates him. It seems to me the reason the movie sat on the shelf for 2 years and it's not being shown here is there might have been some legal action from one or more of the people depicted in the movie.
OK, I googled. There was a suit to block distribution of the movie in Italy. One of the doctors who doped him is Italian. I couldn't find any suits here, but this is from a 2 day old article: 'A release date for the USA has not yet been announced but a premiere is scheduled at the Austin Film Festival on November 5'. That's nice - a premiere where Armstrong lives. It sounds like Frears, the director, hates him and apparently so do some people in Austin.
Wow ~ nice research, Cin! You guessed right and, I never realized TWO years ~ long, long time.
shareThis movie won't even be shown in the theater over here. Conspiracy I say.
