He's no movie star - a major miscalculation by producers

Chris is very well cast as Thor and that'll do the job,

but he's not the kind of actor that can create characters that you buy.

It kind of worked in "Rush" again but it didn't in "Blackhat" and "In the Heart of the Sea",

where he was flat.

I got the impression that producers simply decided in 2011 that Chris had to become a leading man

mostly based on this looks, but the audiences have rejected him in most parts.

This shows again that you can't create stars like a product out of nothing.

There must be a core of strong talent, great performances,

otherwise the stars don't shine and the people don't show up…

It's not the fault of Chris, but the producers misjudged his low-key appeal.

He's no leading man.

They are desperate for the next big leading man and are constantly trying out new actors. I think he will continue to get work and seems a nice guy but he's lacking that certain 'je ne sais quoi' that makes someone a star.

Regarding Black Hat. He recently said in an interview something that I had suspected about making that movie.

His character Hathaway, the way the character was portrayed and his development during the movie was not totally to his liking. In other circumstances he would have tried to compromise with the director, but he mentioned how star-struck he was about working with Michael Mann, so disagreeing didn't seem possible. Based on previous items and articles about Mann, he seems to like to micro-manage everything, so getting him to change Hathaway's character may not have been possible for Chris anyway.

This is all WAY too early to say. This is also pretty much the same topic on EVERY successful actor's imdb board.

People really enjoyed him in Rush, which 90 million on a 38 million budget, not a flop.

Snow White in the Huntsman was successful and people responded so well to him in it they've finished the second one.

Honestly, all actors are gonna struggle to find their footing a little in different times and will have movies that are not well received. Tom Hanks, Liam Neeson, Hugh Jackman, Will Smith, Matt Damon. People are way too quick to say "a flop" and the like. It's ridiculous because the man has a lot of talent and actually has the guts to try out for different parts. People are responding well to him. The twitter trolls and cynics are the loud ones but if you ask the average movie goer if they like Chris Hemsworth most will say yes.

Blackhat's biggest problem was the direction and sound. You could barely hear the dialogue and the movie was just flat out boring. No humor to break up it up, and it ran a half hour too long while taking itself way too seriously

I agree.

I can't grasp that distinct "Australian look" he has, if that make sense. Even Sam Worthington has it. He doesn't look like an international star, like other Aussie actors (Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Hugh Jackman, Rose Byrne).

His face is suited to be of some crocodile hunter in Northern Territory. Lol.

His brother Liam is more Hollywood-y looking...
