"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference."

Interesting article about why Derek Chauvin's murder of George Floyd was so painful for many people.

Quote in title from Elie Wiesel, late Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

reply

Floyd was indifferent about his life and the life of everyone else. He was the cause of his own demise.

reply

Chauvin, as a police officer, had a responsibility to not be indifferent. He was supposed to both serve...and protect.

reply

He wasn't indifferent, and he was serving and protecting. He was protecting people from criminals like George.

reply

Even if Floyd was a criminal, he didn't have to die. Chauvin had a responsibility to protect all to the best of his ability, innocent and criminal.

reply

"he didn't have to die"

...And he didn’t have to be a drug fiend and a career criminal.

Oh, and he didn’t have to be defiant towards the arresting officers.

reply

BOTH ARE CORRECT.

reply

He WAS a criminal, there's no ifs or buts about it. He had a rap sheet going back 20+ years prior to this incident and there's a 95% chance he would have died regardless of Chauvin being involved or not.

It's obvious that they suppressed evidence that would have worked in favour of Chauvin's case. He was essentially fed to the wolves just so there would be no more riots. Once the mob threatens to spit the dummy, you better give them what they want.
