Early Andy Bernard vs later Andy Bernard

I've been watching some of the older The Office (US) episodes and the ones with Ed while his overbearing, angry, yuppie Andy Bernard is still in Stamford and just moving to Scranton are golden. Later on, they nice him up and his character losses its edge.

I am on Season 9 now and it really feels like they tried to make him go back to his earlier self. Not sure if it makes sense because he was nice-guy for like seasons 4-8, now he's making questionable decisions.

I love Andy from seasons 3-6, because he's funny and silly in an over-the-top manner (mainly with his singing). However, once he becomes promoted as the regional manager, his character changes dramatically and he acts really serious and "manager-like" and rarely acts his usual funny, dorky self.
