Why is He Missing From The Office?

I know why his character isn't present in this season of The Office, but why is Ed Helms missing? Is he busy filming something else or did they just write him out of most of this year for the heck of it?

Well, considering that he had a contract with NBC long before the Hangover came out, he should have been legally obligated to shoot the Office first. It seemed all that happened to him in the last episode was the EP's way of passive-agressively showing how pissed he was that Ed wanted time off.
