The Outcast (2015)

TV adaptation of Sadie Jones' novel

In 1957 Lewis Aldridge, newly released from prison, returns home to Waterford, a suburban town outside London. He is nineteen years old. A decade earlier his father's homecoming at war's end was greeted with far less apprehension by the staid, tightly knit community—thanks to Gilbert Aldridge's easy acceptance of suburban ritual and routine. Nobody is surprised that Gilbert's wife counters convention, but the entire community is shocked when, after one of their jaunts, Lewis comes back without her.

As I was watching the Outcast, at first I was disappointed that he was cast as the older Lewis simply because the younger Lewis did such an amazing job and they didn't look like each other enough. However as I continued watching I realised that he was the right choice because George Mackay's extraordinary performance reflected Lewis' brokenness and his battle with light and darkness perfectly. This guy is definitely an actor to be on the look out for.
