I think it's fantastic that Tom,Hugh and Olivia are nominated.It's great that The Night Manager was such a success for Tom.This will shut all the naysayers up.😎All those that think Tom is not much of an actor,or the thing with Taylor Swift,thinking that it would ruin his career is complete nonsense. It makes me very happy and satisfied to see Tom finally have his work recognised internationally. Good for him👏

Every award is for sale if you have enough of a marketing budget to put all the marketing tools (ads in trades, commercials, multiple screenings, etc.) in people's faces on a daily basis. Just ask Harvey Weinstein and look at what he does with the Oscars. There's only 1 award show that I know of that let's the winners know ahead of time and is why they show up, but I'm not saying and it's not GG, SAG, Oscar, Emmys.

I've dealt with the GG/HFPA and they are not as easy of a bunch as they once were - they make plenty of monies from all the ad rev, they certainly don't need perks from the studios like they once did. Tom Ford sent such fancy baskets this year for Nocturnal Animals, that the GG sent them back as being too elaborate. So nope, not for sale anymore. Unless you consider huge marketing campaigns a sales tool. It's great if a studio or network can really get behind a project, but they have to really believe in the quality of the project they are pushing.

And the GG snubs were massive this year. Some really fine work has not been acknowledged. I'm super disappointed in many of the choices and think with the exception of a few films, this is a lame year of films. Television is far better in quality and diversity.

yes, if the marketing budgets are really substantial, but not as predictable as it used to be. There's also the element of just exhaustion. I know people get overwhelmed with trying to watch thousands of films in a short period of time and there are more films/tv shows than ever from all over the world. To get people out to a screening and get them to watch one's film is not easy.
