shareHe seemed to think he needed to apologize. He just does not work well in the short form and he obviously was going off the cuff, a dangerous thing to do in front of millions of people. Tom, we love that you won. Next time, please prepare a speech!
shareReading that made me a bit sad ☹️ Tom's been working for Unicef for years. He's super passionate about it, especially children growing up with grim futures. Of all celebs to get crapped on, I don't think he deserved it last night. He's a super nice dude. I saw a video of him being told his speech was self indulgent all over Twitter right as he just got out the venue. He look so happy then confused, then really crestfallen. You can just tell that dropped his spirit in a few seconds flat. Pretty clearly he found out his heartfelt words got taken really badly immediately after. I think every winner deserves their feeling of achievement, for whatever their hard work. Im sorry to see his first big win get buried like that. I've been a fan since TA so his win felt great, then really sad. I'm really tired of the hate he's getting. People are so extremely hateful and mean. They want him to fail, even when he won. I'm over the schadenfreude. I wish more people would have productive discussions instead of tear others down. I must say, a lot more people are learning about South Sudan, myself included last year. That's what matters, but the human spirit can be so ugly.

Ugh, thats awful, it makes me want to cry. He most definitely did not deserve that. 😞

He looks crest fallen :(
Totally agree with you, glass_hopper, TH was nervous and most likely a bit in "shock"(at winning the GG award as was Hugh Laurie) and jumbled his thoughts-words during the speech. At least his intentions are good for his charity and he truly cares. Enjoy him immensely as an actor and he isn't bad to look at IMO:)
PS: I would never have the nerve to get up in front of a large group of people like that ever and so admire people who can!
He has a sad. I understood him. He should play his ex's Shake It Off. Haters gon hate.
shareHi Hopper - been out of the country and wanted to stop in and say Congrats to Tom on his BIG win.
Then saw all the drama about his speech. Watched it. Thought he was eloquent for most of it, then a little clunky on tying it up, but he meant well. What we say to our close friends and in front of a broad, general audience, does not always come off the same way. I am not a fan of public speaking, but because of my job am required to do so and have made some doozy of mistakes. Horrifying actually.
The group of Chinese assistants I had in Beijing all squealed with delight that Tom Hiddleston won the Golden Globe ( they love him so much, the mention of his name, they scream, cover their mouths and giggle uncontrollably) There is no Twitter in China. No Insty or any snarky websites that mentioned his speech. Only that he won the GG is all we heard.
I have tremendous empathy for him that he felt he had to apologize. It makes me adore him even more. His speech did serve its purpose though in bringing awareness to this important cause for UNICEF and South Sudan. It may have not have been the story ending he wanted it to be, but it has had a greater impact.
Really happy to see Hugh Laurie and Olivia win as well. So Congrats to Mr. Hiddleston on your big win.
Next up. Skull Island.
