Been wondering this myself. In other interviews, she mentions that this took place on the soap operas she starred in at that time, in which she had sex scenes. Apparently, they producers's conviction to push the limit of what's allowed on network TV was such, they had Seyfried take her panties off on set, even though she wouldn't be revealing the goods in full
