At the Coronation

Poor guy went alone without his controlling wife and didn't even get a special carriage like his big bro did. Had to stand in the sidelines as the extra.

It was HIS idea to leave the role of Working Royal, his and Meg's! And if he didn't understand that that meant giving up some perks and the best seats at royal events, he's even dumber than I think he is.

Seriously, why did he think showing up, scowling, bolting out the front door, and generally behaving with ill grace would be good for his brand.

reply

He would've been better off not attending in the first place I think.

Yeah, he could have claimed that he needed to be at home for his kid's birthday, because he didn't win points with anyone by putting in a perfunctory appearance and sulking. Except maybe with Charles's will.

And BTW rumor has it that Meg didn't go because as she left the role of a working royal, she wouldn't get to wear a tiara or full regalia, or be seated in the front row. And she was afraid the crowds would boo her and Harry.

reply

Well they did boo her at the Jubilee, which was rude and cruel. Plus many of the family members shunned her according to reports. Therefore I understand her reasoning. I read they were cool to her at the funeral as well. That is sad Harry will miss the banquet and concert, but it's his choice. At least he came to the coranation and
supported his dad. In addition, caught up with his cousins. You cannot believe everything in the media, it is possible he and William spoke in private.

reply

I actually blame Harry for a lot of Meg's unpopularity. I mean, she doesn't seem like a nice person, but she was introduced to royal life and the British public by Harry... who had already developed massive resentments against his family and a pathological hatred of the press by the time he met her. So while he should have been telling her how to be a royal, he was actually telling her "Granny would give me anything I wanted if those awful courtiers weren't stopping her, the press office is throwing me to the wolves by letting [true] stories of my drug use get out, and the paparazzi killed my mother and they'll kill you too.".

But what's a gal gonna do, when she's been written off her TV show and she's getting too old to Hollywood? Either marry Harry as is, or give up on fame and get a realtor's license.

reply

You say “shunned”; I say “gray-rocked.”

reply

I totally believe that. I also think she keeps her kids hidden away because she can’t bear to have people look at them critically (which would be tantamount to criticism of her parenting) because of the way she encourages her minions to say terrible things about the Wales children. If her kids are hidden, only positive news stories will ever appear about them.

reply

My guess that keeping the kids "hidden away" is Harry's idea, he didn't like growing up in a fishbowl and I can see that he'd want to protect his kids from that. I also think that, because she comes from a milieu where it's considered totally normal to put millions of pictures of your kids on social media, and so is taking them to events where there will be paparazi, and getting them acting roles at an early age.

I really think she missed a golden opportunity at the coronation - imagine if she'd gone, and faced the same snubs that Harry did... but instead of trying to fake cheerfulness the way Harry did, she'd looked hurt for the cameras! If she'd looked crushed and turned to Harry for comfort every time someone wouldn't speak to her, nobody would be talking about anything else today, and the blogosphere would be talking about racism and snobbery and she'd have a bazillion new fans. Just what their brand needed, but she couldn't be arsed.

reply

His cousins talked to him. I kinda feel bad for Andy too. I give Fergie credit, the royals have snubbed her for over 30 years, but she never trashed them. According to the press, he was invited to the dinner and concert, but chose to go home. But I can see his viewpoint, feelings are still raw on both sides.

I can understand them keeping Archie and Lilibet out the spotlight, the media is already picking on 5 year old Louie.

reply

Don't feel bad for Andrew, by all accounts he is an absolutely vile person and deserves every bit of shunning and humiliation he gets!

As for Harry, I'm not going to tell anyone how to feel about him, he's such a mess. But the fact is he's been making money with his tell-all book and reality TV show, and will probably sell more stories about his life as a royal and his royal relatives in the future... Which means that none of the royals will talk to him for fear of having him relay a clickbaity version of the chat to the press. So nobody will talk to him for fear of his telling the public that they said something mean or offensive, and rumor has it that William and Charles won't talk to him without witnesses or a paper trail, and that is a situation that Harry has created for himself. If he doesn't like it, he has nobody but himself, and his wife and his publishers, to blame.

reply

He called himself the spare, as far as I know.

reply

I thought he and b***h wife were on their worldwide "Leave us alone, we want privacy" tour.

reply

Andy came in a car too. Oh buddy, I bet he will write about the carriage snub in his next book. Then again, maybe he didn't want one.
