Sea level rise accelerating along US coastline, scientists warn

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/feb/03/sea-level-rise-accelerating-us-coastline-scientists-warn

The pace of sea level rise accelerated at nearly all measurement stations along the US coastline in 2019, with scientists warning some of the bleakest scenarios for inundation and flooding are steadily becoming more likely.

Of 32 tide-gauge stations in locations along the vast US coastline, 25 showed a clear acceleration in sea level rise last year, according to researchers at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (Vims).

The selected measurements are from coastal locations spanning from Maine to Alaska. About 40% of the US population lives in or near coastal areas.

The gathering speed of sea level rise is evident even within the space of a year, with water levels at the 25 sites rising at a faster rate in 2019 than in 2018.

The highest rate of sea level rise was recorded along the Gulf of Mexico shoreline, with Grand Isle, Louisiana, experiencing a 7.93mm annual increase, more than double the global average. The Texas locations of Galveston and Rockport had the next largest sea level rise increases.

Generally speaking, the sea level is rising faster on the US east and Gulf coasts compared with the US west coast, partially because land on the eastern seaboard is gradually sinking.

Researchers at Vims said that the current speed-up in sea level rise started around 2013 or 2014 and is probably caused by ocean dynamics and ice sheet loss. Worldwide, sea level rise is being driven by the melting of large glaciers and the thermal expansion of ocean water due to human-induced global heating.

They always find some way to deny it in their heads. Someone will bring up some stupid reason for as to why this is in fact not true, and then a bunch of deniers will reply to that comment, patting eachother on the back. It's the same with flat earthers, they always find some way to "disprove" individual facts even though the big picture doesn't make a lot of sense.

And, just like with flat earthers, it's pretty hard/almost impossible to convince them otherwise because they've dug their heels in too deep and will never ever admit they're wrong. So stop wasting your time with posts like these and just join in with the rest of us and laugh at them. There really is a lot of enjoyment to be had from flat earthers and man-made climate change deniers.

But not as much fun as there is to be had from reading the inane, childish, bed-wetting hysteria of climate-heads and their weird pseudo-scientific religion. Go ahead and buy all the sea level property you want, it will be just fine.

Excellent !

We're all dooomed. DOOOOMED.

LOL

Better pay the carbon tax and it will fix everything. LOL.

The navy moved into caves so when the water rises they can't get the ships out and will have to buy new ones.

Fake News.

Let me be clear, i do not agree or disagree with climate change. There is enough evidence to push your agenda either way, unfortunately money will always be the driving factor.

Ok, lets take it that this article is infact 100% correct.

How is the sea rising? We were told this 30 years ago, Ice caps still havent melted, weird that.

If the polar ice caps melted tomorrow, the oceans wouldn't rise (well maybe a little), the water has already been displaced. Archimedes told us this.

Also the study this article points to shows coastlines reducing as well as increasing by an average of 2mm, the 8 feet number is based on if that 2mm continued over the decades which they can only guess on a they have no clue if it will or will not. Again displaced water cannot be displaced even further with the same weight and mass, it is physically impossible.

Look at the numbers, California shows San Francisco increase 1.91mm and Crescent City reduced by 0.71mm so which is it, increase or decrease.

You do realise if these journos and scientists actually came out and said climate change is in fact a hoax they would be out of a job, they have to keep printing articles to get paid.

Climate science grants are based on proving climate change, they don't get paid if they say it doesn't exist. Everything is always about money no matter how noble your intentions were in the beginning.

No climate change = no articles = no money.

If BOTH ice caps could melt at the same time, we wouldn't be around to talk about it, because that would be the least of our problems. The earth would probably be engulfed in flames from a planetary collision or massive meteor strike.

Unless you're a flat earther, it's impossible for a polar ice cap to melt in 24 hour subzero darkness.

Propaganda, gaslighting, marxism bullshit. Some of us are old enough to remember real pollution and smog problems, kinda like China has now.
