Girly boys

So many singers in 80's bands had that empty, sissified, gormless expression. I think the late 80s was when the rot really started to set in.

I'll never say anything bad about the owner of the National Wrestling Alliance

Gene Simmons of KISS said this, basically, in an interview at least 20 years ago.

reply

Did he? He could, I suppose, because nobody would call him sissified.

Bizarre, outlandish, and even ludicrous, yes, but not sissified.

reply

Definite sissies. Grunge was the limp noodle of rock ‘n roll.

reply

Kurt Cobain, yes. Layne Staley, yes. Billy Corgan? Sissiest of sissies. Eddie Vedder? not a sissy but too sensitive by far. Chris Cornell? Mark Lanegan? Both so far from being sissies that they rank as nephews of Robert Plant and Johnny Cash respectively.

reply

Gene Simmons is a known douchebag. He badmouths everybody.

Their first album was1991.

"Grunge" was all about trying to look as disinterested and depressed as possible while earning millions of $$$ to do so. It was also about trying to appeal to a more feminist audience as opposed to the actual feminine women that the glam and rock bands appealed to.

In short. These guys had to look non threatening and delicate.

I'm sure it's me getting old, but while I'm at least a little interested in their music - because Corgan and Jack White get a lot of accolades - but they both seem to be such poseurs. Like there is supposed to be some smoldering intensity and dissatisfaction every time we see a publicity photo of these guys, or some other supposedly unique look They end up looking like wankers, if you ask me.

reply

I like some of their music too. And I do agree they are poseurs and it kind of works perhaps when they are young but they are older now and it looks really sad https://www.alternativenation.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/pumpkinsogtrio2018new.jpg
