What's up with 'Common'?

The guy appears -- at least in what I've seen -- to be a versatile and talented actor. Admittedly I don't know squat about his musical career, although it does seem rather extensive!

But people...what's with the name?? Surely anyone wanting to be taken seriously doesn't get a moniker like "Common."

Well I imagine you know that what he is really famous for his skills on the mic. The main reason he could come out like he did is because he was a well respected rapper known for his "conscious" lyrics.
His rap name used to be Common Sense, but he shortened it to Common because a band with that name sued him, at least to my knowledge that's what happened.

I beat his ass 6 yrs ago @ a BMF BabtyShower! I remember He said, so what to Big Meech. I thought he said Suu WUUU A blood callin to war chant. I looked back and said, *beep* Kool Aid (My fallen Comrad also a OOOG Crip from Alabama) Then I went & beat the *beep* outta him right there! Jermaine Dupree & Ne Ne from Real Housewives of Atlanta called me the next day begging for me not to fucc his blood affiliated ass up begging for his life! Im Jeezys 4th Cousin I aint lyin!
