Amazons of the Yang Family

News just announced that she will play the lead role together with Zhao Xun, Gong Li, Tang Wei and Michelle Yeoh in this story about a family of amazons headed by the grandmother, her daughter-in-laws, daughters and grand-daughters.

Zhang will play the lead role(if according to the original story) and Gong Li will play the grandmother.
Zhao Xun will play the youngest aunt who got a love story behind her. She was in love with Zhang's husband and Tang We(Lust Caution) will play Zhang's mother-in-law. Michelle Yeoh's role is not confirmed yet.

I know my description is confusing :-)

This story has been made into TV series and the most famous version is the Shaw Brothers 1974 movie named "14 Amazons", in which Lisa LU played the grandmother, Zhang will play the Ivy Ling Po role and Zhao, the Li Ching role.
The highlight of 14 Amazons is when all the ladies must form a human bridge to allow their grandma and everyone to cross over a ridge when chased by the enemies. It's still fun to watch the old version today. A lot of Shaw's beautiful faces in it.

Another important character is the only surviving male member of the family, son of Zhang Ziyi, acted by Lily Ho in Shaw's version. I wonder who will play him now ? Maybe Edison Chen who is desperate for a movie ?
