Peking University professor:I don't believe she meant to cheat

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2010-03/16/content_9593921.htm

Zhang Yiwu, Peking University professor, who once compared Zhang Ziyi with Confucius in terms of promoting Chinese culture overseas

"I don't believe she meant to cheat. But I do think that if she had not promised too much or had lived up to what she had promised, things would be much better.

One should know his or her limits. Nobody is omnipotent. Charity is something that really should be done by professionals. Too much idealism or romanticism may not always lead to a happy ending. I think Zhang Ziyi does not have an objective opinion of the abilities of those who promised to donate but failed to do so. But after all, she has donated much money - more than most of us have - and we should encourage any positive contributions.

Zhang plays an important role in China's international communications. Popular and traditional culture are both important elements of a country's image. Zhang is one of the most important symbols of China's popular culture. Today, I still think we need more people like her. There are few Chinese stars with her level of influence."

China is like a crying baby. Rock that baby and it will go back to sleep.

I don't think she should have said anything. She must want to stay there. I bet she NEVER trys to collect for charity EVER again. LOL.

Now the netizens won't shut up about anything. Maybe they can move on to something really important. There is the matter of building codes that need upgrading. Oh, and pollution. What about manufacturing quality-control?

reply

. I bet she NEVER trys to collect for charity EVER again. LOL.

--------

ZZ said she will continue to collect and work for charity, forever. She won't give it up just because of this matter.

I am sure the public won't stop until see the account book. Would you listen to someone who has been issued self-contradictory statements again and again?

reply

Stop making accusations. She never made self-contradictory statements.
She mentioned earlier she "raised" that amount without suspecting some donors failed to pay up. Anyway, she is prepared to make up the difference out of her own pocket if the others don't pay up.

I think she is GREAT !! What can you say now ?

Try to make some new attacks(like Chinese reporters) if you must, give up on this issue, you failed badly.

reply

They always hire lawyers and PR people to give them a voice. Always sounds good, too.

Books can be cooked too.

When all is said and done, the Chinese will start liking Ziyi again when they have faith that she's basically a decent person. Until that happens, nothing on this earth will change that. Fans and critics project onto her their strengths and weaknesses. That's why she's a star, and that's her job.

Wanting to see the books is just some lip-service. They really want to see her cooked, I think.I have to admit, Ziyi crying in public is impressive.

At least she has the money to pay for the shortages in the pledges. Personally, I'd let PRC take care of it. They are doing such a bang-up job to this point. There is a tipping point where she is starting to get in the way. I think she's in the way now. Busy little bee that she is.

reply

Please read the full interview.
She NEVER apologise. Why should she apologise ? Those ZZ haters and reporters who reported wrongly should apologise.

She merely explained that she will make up for those who failed to donate as promised.

OH.....she gained more respect and support from me now. I don't know about you.

reply

So she takes the credit for raising or pledging to raise (depending on which statement of hers you agree with) money, but then quickly turns and blames those she claims failed to honor their pledges. According to her, her only fault was her innocence in the whole field of charitable donations. She has a billionaire on-and-off again fiance, is one of the most influential Chinese celebrities (and nothing more), and has all the resources and privileges given to celebrities with her stature - and she couldn't do a little research? Through this, Zhang Ziyi has shown that she is both exceptionally stupid and incredibly dishonest.

reply

Ziyi's problem in this misadventure was to do ANYTHING at all. She should have left the help part to PRC. She was naive to think cuz she is popular and likable she can raise money for the earthquaked Chinese. It just didn't work. Nobody paid off after pledging. Probably, it was the bad economy. Usually, people donate to get recognition for helping.

She says she'll do it again, but you know she won't. She should fire her manager for letting her get involved in the first place.

I think she wasn't stupid, just naive. Maybe you think it the same, but I think it's different cuz stupid would mean she knew this was going to happen and did it anyway.

I still think, if you listen to her interview, she still thinks those guys are going to contribute. Clearly, they wont. She'll have to make that up. Good thing she's rich, but nobody is that rich.
