Go get him Sly!
A repost from The Expendables 2 board: I'm a huge fan of American, Chinese, Thai, Korean and Japanese action films. They all have their own unique qualities that they bring to the table. Even "bad" action films usually have somthing cool about them. Well anyway, I love Donnie Yen. He's been is a ton of great martial arts/modern action films and if you don't know him (I'm sure there's only a few of you out there) than you owe it to yourself to check out a few of his films. Check out Ip(Yip)Man for a recent period piece or Kill Zone for a modern film (just to name 2) Kill Zone has an incredibly brutal alley fight scene between Donnie and his on screen nemesis. During the commentary for Kill Zone, Donnie explained how the scene was shot over 5 days and that in Hong Kong/China a star of his stature (my words, not his) gets the time to coordinate and shoot the scene properly even if the budget isn't there. He went to the director and producers and got to do the alley scene in the final week of production. He picked the Alley location because it cost nothing. During these shoots he also serves as the Director/stunt coordinator with no interfearance from the primary director. In his commentary he laments the fact that he's never had an on screen hand-to-hand fight sceen with Jet Li. They've done weapons before but never a modern bone crunching hand to hand (Donnie's a big MMA fan BTW!) scene. Sly, if you somehow ever read this (LOL! I know...) Go get Donnie. He'll play a bad guy. (Did it VS Jackie in Shanghi Knights and kicked his ass, DVD extended fight scene.) You've already got Jet on your roster. Give Donnie his 5 days and the director's chair and let him have at it. I'd love to see Jet truly get a chance to shine again and I think that this would be a great addition to Expendables 2. Thanks guys for hanging in til the end of this post.
Wherever you go, there you are.
