When Allison Janney mentioned her at the Academy Awards..
last night and looked up thanking her, I thought she was dead, but she is still very much alive. She must be close to 90 now.
shareShe is still alive but, very sadly, has for some years been suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s Disease. According to reports I have read, her family say that she is no longer able to remember that she was married to Paul Newman -- all she recalls is that she was married to 'someone handsome'.
Alzheimer’s is a horrendous thing.

shareThey were a WONDERFUL couple, so good together, what talent they both had. Each of them was evidence that a Star can be a real three-dimensional human being. We still have Stars who are like that, but so many are shallow two-dimensional manufacturered serial marriers. I am very sad to hear about her condition😢

shareYes, thank you. They knew how to work on their marriage. They are an example to us all. And Paul Newman could have had any woman he wanted. He really loved her, and I’m sure she knew it. God bless them both.
shareI had no idea. Not that it has anything to do with Alzheimer's, but a bitter irony is I always thought she radiated this warmth and genuine intelligence in the few roles I saw her in. I felt like I was watching a very intelligent woman act.
I'm glad people have taken some moments to remember her. Not the biggest star, but embraced as one.
