I am so sorry for doing this. I don't usually do this but I can't help it. I just wanted to know if others share the same insight.
I just saw Shailene Woodley for the first time a while ago from TFIOS and she immediately reminded me of Jennifer Lawrence' performance in the Silver Linings Playbook.
Both of them are talented.
Both of them have worldwide commercial appeal.
I rest my case.

shareI think Jlaw is better actress in that she is more varied in her roles. Woodley plays every role the exact same way, that's the problem. But she is good in doing what she does.
And Jlaw has the charisma.
SW is basically on one-note, wooden. JLaw can actually express emotions. She was magnificent in American Hustle.

JL burst on the film scene almost fully formed, SW is still learning her craft. JL is an exceptionally fast learner who put the coaching she got from Charlize Theron and John Hawkes to memory.

So far SW hasn't had to expand her range but she has presence - almost Jessica Chastain level presence. Maybe as she matures she'll be able to pull of a turning point scene like Minnie's black eye in The Help.
She is closer to JC than JL. The makers of The Help have not allowed Minnie's shiner to get on YT, so here's another of JC's crucial scenes.

And I could say the same about JLaw. All her roles look the same to me. AH was the same as SLPB - an outspoken chick who is questionably crazy. I don't know but I see SW as better . . .Her Divergent character is worlds apart from SpecNow.
