Mary Elizabeth Winstead is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. As far as I can see, she can act very well. She seems like a really nice person who would be pleasant to work with. So why isn't she the star of every major blockbuster? I literally don't see any reason why she shouldn't be more famous than, say, Megan Fox.
"Friends are like potatoes. If you eat them, they will die."
Unfortunately for her she's just fell short many times. Some bad luck. On paper she's been in Star Wars, DC, Final Destination, Black Christmas, The Thing, Cloverfield, Fargo and starred in her own Netflix movie and also alongside Will Smith. She has worked with Tarantino, Edgar Wright and the Daniels.
Final Destination 3 (2006) & 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) are the only movies she's made which truly performed.
She starred in Black Christmas (2006) and The Thing (2011). A remake and prequel to two of the most beloved and acclaimed horror movies of all time... they both flopped.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) is an amazing movie... but it was a box office bomb.
Some of her best acting work was snubbed. Smashed (2012) and All About Nina (2018). The indie flicks didn't break out enough for her to get award attention.
She worked with Quentin Tarantino. A supporting role. Death Proof (2007) is considered by many to be Tarantino's worst movie!
She's worked with the Daniels. A supporting role in Swiss Army Man (2016). Their next movie was the box office hit and academy award winning Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)!
She starred alongside Will Smith in a big budget flick, Gemini Man (2019). Unfortunately it flopped. Making this movie with Will Smith in the mid-00s when he was a bigger star would have been really beneficial and a certified hit. The timing was off. Will Smith's days as a box office star were pretty much done.
She got into the DC extended universe via Birds of Prey (2020). A supporting role. It's one of the lower grossing DCEU movies. If she had of got a lead role in the universe... imagine if she got picked as Wonder Woman?
She got into the Star Wars universe via Ahsoka. A supporting role. It would have been better for her to make it into The Mandolorian for example.
She got to be the lead in a Netflix movie. Kate (2021). I don't think it performed as well as some of their others (Bird Box, Red Notice, Extraction, etc, etc).
She was outstanding in Fargo season 3. Unfortunately it wasn't as well received as seasons 1 & 2.
She was great in BrainDead. Unfortuanetly it got cancelled after one season.
She's been very unlucky. On paper a superb career. She's gorgeous and a brilliant actress but she just hasn't got that major breakout role. Keeps starring in projects that should be it only for them to fall flat through no fault of her own.
Yeah, just never got a big hit movie like her peers ScarJo (Avengers/MCU, Lucy, ), Natalie Portman (Star Wars, Black Swan, Thor) Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries, Devil Wears Prada, Dark Knight Rises, Les Mis) Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall St, Suicide Squad, OUATIH, Barbie) , or even Gal Gadot (WW)
She's not a stereotypical "babe" like Sydney Sweeney. Hollywood probably thinks she lacks screen presence as well. Also, by her own admission, she doesn't want to be a big star (not sure I buy it, though).
