Shane West- was he in a boy band?

My teenage daughter and I love "Nikita" and I told her I thought Shane West was in a boy band years ago, before ER and A Walk to Remember. Am I imagining it, or thinking of someone else?

He was the lead in a punk rock band called Jonny Was and then became the new lead singer for The Germs during his time on ER.

He played a character in Get Over It where he was a former British boy band-er. It was hilariously awful and awesome.
