The Music of Smallville...

Hi everyone,

If anyone is interested me and some friends write for a website called The Amateur Hour Podcast and one of our guys has recently written an article called Setting The Scene: The Music of Smallville. It's about how the soundtrack was a key part of the show.

You can see it here:

We would love to know peoples thoughts and opinions on it. Feel free to comment and give us any feedback...

Nice job and I agree, the soundtrack was a key part of the show. My favourites are Everything by Lifehouse and Pioneer to the Falls by Interpol. The latter was used in a season 8 ep.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it. I did consider using 'Everything' as I love that song and am a big fan of Lifehouse. There were a few other scenes I considered like Lex, walking down the corridor of 33.1 to AFI's 'Prelude 12/21' in episode 6x09.

I was going to mention that very song. Along with the songs "Pioneer to the Falls" by Interpol and "Precious" by Depeche Mode. All used very well in the show. I thought about mentioning "Please Don't Take Your Love Away" by Vast, but after the way they f'd up Doomsday, that whole season needs to be forgotten. "I Don't Care" by Apocalyptica was unfortunately used in that same season. "Everything" by Lifehouse was a good choice as well.

I agree with you on this. I LOVED the music they used with Lex walking down the corridor. Perfect. I don't think they could have found anything better to convey the sense of sinister, along with Michael Rosenbaum. I was so sorry when he left, because he was incredible, and no doubt in my mind if he had stayed that he would have taken evil Lex to the next level as the perfect villain. I never got tired of seeing him. I also became a fan of a few groups and singers that were featured on Smallville. I know as their budget got tighter, they used more stock music, but in the last year I was happy to see them bring back featured songs, and again I found new favorites, usually played with Clark & Lois (the dance in the barn, the first time they made love, and the wedding).
